Aldara is prescribed for Genital warts, perennial warts and condyloma. Aldara has no direct antiviral activity. Animal studies suggest that Aldara stimulates the skin to produce Cytokines, potent natural chemicals that fight the warts but its actual effect on genital warts and condyloma is not known. In studies of the drug 50% of people who used Aldara had completely got rid of their warts.
Aldara is not a cure for genital warts as new ones may develop whilst other are being treated. Only minimal amount of Imiquimod enters the blood stream.

Precaution in using Aldara

Missed Dose of Aldara

If you forget to apply a dose of Aldara make the next application as soon as you remember. Don't apply until your next scheduled application, space the remaining doses of Aldara equally throughout the rest of the week and continue with your regular scheduled application of Aldara.

Usual dose of Aldara

Adults may apply a thin layer of cream to external warts and rub it in until the cream disappears. Leave it on the skin for 10 to 16 hours.

Accidental ingestion of Aldara (Imiquimod) may cause low blood pressure.

It is not known if Aldara (Imiquimod) passes into breast milk hence a nursing mother should consider bottle feeding her infant. Seniors can use Aldara without any worries.
